In a remarkable display of dedication, Justices Jasmeet Singh and Vikas Mahajan of the Delhi High Court shattered all expectations by sitting well past 9 pm to dispense justice. This extraordinary commitment comes despite the court being on summer break, with the two judges serving on the vacation bench designated for urgent matters.
Starting their day as a division bench around 10:30 am, they continued tirelessly, later transitioning to single-judge benches at approximately 3:30 pm. While Justice Mahajan concluded his proceedings around 9:20 pm, Justice Singh remarkably presided until 9:50 pm. Justice Mahajan had an overwhelming load of 50 cases, while Justice Singh had 48 before him.
What truly sets this apart is Justice Mahajan's announcement that he will continue hearing cases on Tuesday, even though it is not a working day for the High Court. This exceptional dedication to justice has been warmly received by lawyers appearing before the two judges.
The cases they handled encompassed a wide range of crucial matters, including demolition property disputes, anticipatory bail requests, pleas for the suspension of Look Out Circulars (LOCs), copyright infringement cases, and a batch of petitions relating to Haj Group Organisers (HGOs).
This is not the first time Justice Singh has gone above and beyond the call of duty. In June 2021, he had presided over court proceedings until an astonishing 11 pm.
These extraordinary efforts by Justices Jasmeet Singh and Vikas Mahajan are a testament to their unwavering commitment to ensuring access to justice, defying conventional working hours and leaving a lasting impact on the legal landscape.
