The Current Chief Justice of India UU Lalit has recommended the name of Justice Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud, for the post of next Chief Justice of India on Tuesday Morning in front of all judges of the Supreme Court assembled in Judges Lounge on the request of CJI Lalit.
In the meeting, the letter for designating the next CJI was handed over to the next Chief Justice of India. On 08th November 2022 after the retirement of incumbent Chief Justice UU Lalit, Justice Chandrachud will become the 50th Chief Justice of India. Before this a letter of the designation was handed over by the Union Minister of Law and Justice Sh. Kiren Rijiju requesting CJI Lalit to consider as the Next Chief Justice of India.
Justice DY Chandrachud is the son of former Chief Justice of India YV Chandrachud who was the 16th Chief Justice of India and one of the longest-serving Chief Justices serving from 2 February 1978 to 11 July 1985.
Justice DY Chandrachud has completed his graduation from Delhi University and Post Graduation from Harvard University and is celebrated for liberal and progressive judgments. After the approval from the Centre Government, Justice DY Chandrachud will be appointed for 2 years as Chief Justice of India from, 09th November 2022 to 10th November 2022.
