ASI Survey Decision Delayed in Gyanvapi Case Due to Muslim Side's Absence, Next Hearing Set for January 3, 2024

The decision on the ASI survey in the Gyanvapi case did not take place yesterday, as the Muslim side was absent. The next hearing is scheduled for January 3, 2024. The ASI had submitted the survey report for the Gyanvapi Masjid complex in a sealed envelope on Monday (December 18) in the District Judge's Court, and the anticipated decision was supposed to be announced today, on December 21.

During the hearing, the Hindu side was present in the court of District Judge Varanasi, Dr. Ajay Krishna Vishwesh, while the Muslim side did not come. The District Judge sent a message from inside that I will sit on the seat in this case only if both parties are there. The Hindu side said that the matter should be heard because the order is reserved. No lawyer was present on behalf of Anjuman arrangements. Whereas all the advocates of the Hindu side and the plaintiff lawyers were present in the court.

Before presenting the report on the last hearing, the Muslim side had applied in court, demanding that the ASI present the report of the survey conducted in the Gyanvapi complex of Varanasi in a sealed envelope and no one should be allowed to make the report public without an affidavit. A 5-member team had reached the District Judge Court amid security to submit the report.

On July 21, 2023, the court of the District Judge of Varanasi ordered a survey of all the parts and basements of the Gyanvapi complex except the sealed warehouse. A team of technical experts, including archaeologists, chemists, language experts, surveyors and photographers were deployed to conduct scientific surveys in the Gyanvapi complex. During the survey which ran from August 4 to November 2, the ASI team was led by Additional Director General Alok Tripathi.
