On Monday, the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court took cognizance of a case through a suo motu petition concerning the gang rape of a woman aboard a moving train in 2016, followed by her subsequent expulsion, and issued a notice to the railway ministry.
The division bench, comprising Justice A. R. Masoodi and Justice B. R. Singh, issued the aforementioned order in connection with a suo motu petition filed regarding the incident that took place in Mau.
During the hearing, the court was informed that a portion of the total compensation amounting to ₹ 4 lakh had already been disbursed to the victim, with ₹ 2,81,000 having been provided to her.
Further, the court inquired about the delay in disbursing the remaining amount and requested information on the measures implemented to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
The case is scheduled for its next hearing in the first week of March.
