Age limit will not become an obstacle in the way of becoming a teacher : Patna High Court

The Patna High Court has given a big relief to the secondary and senior secondary teachers who were deprived of the restoration examination on the basis of their age, and ordered the Bihar School Examination Committee to accept the applications of all the applicants till 2 pm on Saturday.

This exam is to be held from 4 to 15 September. The court made it clear that the applications of the applicants and other candidates should be accepted. A single bench of Justice Rajeev Ranjan Prasad gave the above order while hearing the petitions filed by Shambhu Kumar and others.

The court also clarified that this order is not final. After the counter affidavit is filed by the state government and the examination committee, whatever decision is taken after hearing all the parties, will be applicable to all the parties. On behalf of the petitioners, Advocate Dinu Kumar and Advocate Ritika Rani told the court that the examination application forms of the candidates have been refused citing old age.

Challenging the validity of the terms and conditions of the advertisement, he said that a candidate's application cannot be refused on the ground of old age. After observing the facts, the court ordered the examination committee to accept the application form and allow it to appear in the examination. Along with this, the state government and the examination committee were ordered to file a counter affidavit.

The Court made it clear that the applications will be accepted only if the persons have attained the age of majority after STET 2019 and within the cut off date of STET 2023. The court said in its order that the board should publish this information on its website.

The next hearing of the matter will be on October 4.
