Lawyers across Rajasthan are on strike demanding the implementation of the "Advocates Protection Bill". The lawyers had kept their demand after meeting Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot who had gone to Jodhpur recently. The government has agreed to the demands of Advocates. A meeting of the cabinet sub-committee on the Advocate Protection Bill was held in Jaipur today. It has ben agreed to bring a bill for the protection of lawyers in this assembly session. The committee headed by Law Minister Shanti Dhariwal considered the draft of the bill and decided to get it passed in the current session.
Committee member Minister Pratapsingh Khachariawas stated that "The Advocate Protection Bill will be placed in the Vidhan Sabha between March 15 and 17. It has been decided in the meeting. Around March 21, efforts will be made to get this bill passed in the assembly. The demands of the lawyers have been agreed upon in the meeting. Lawyers' representatives also agreed. Their biggest demand has been fulfilled."
Law Minister Shanti Dhariwal was associated with the meeting through video conferencing. Apart from Justice Minister Mahesh Joshi, lawyers belonging to the Bar Council were also present. He told the media that the bill has already been framed and it would be place on the floor of the house as it is on the 15th of this month and will try to get it passed by 21st March.
On the other hand, the case of lawyers' strike in Rajasthan has reached the High Court. The special divisional bench of the Rajasthan High Court held a hearing in Jodhpur on today. The bench of Acting Chief Justice MM Srivastava and Justice Vijay Vishnoi issued notices to all the Bar Associations across the state. Along with this, an affidavit has been sought from the president and secretaries of these unions by 21st March 2023.
It is stated in the notice that for what reason they have gone on strike and why action should not be taken against them. Now the next hearing in this matter will be held on March 21. Here, lawyers from across the state will "gherao the Vidhan Sabha" on 13th March regarding the 'Advocate Protection Act'.
It is to be noted that on February 18, advocate Jugraj Chauhan was stabbed to death in the middle of the road in Mata Ka Than area of Jodhpur. After that the lawyers of Jodhpur went on strike. Advocates started demanding to bring Protection Act.
Gradually, other lawyers of the state also got down in support of this act. Advocates across the state are on strike. Lawyers say that they are constantly being attacked. Advocate Protection Act should be implemented. Here, due to the strike of the lawyers, all the work of the court has come to a standstill.
The High Court had taken cognizance on 02nd March due to the judicial work being affected for 21 consecutive days. The first hearing was on the same day. During this, an attempt was also made to explain, but the matter did not work. After this, the High Court has issued notice today.
After the murder of Jugraj, the lawyers of Jodhpur went on strike. During this, a vehicle rally was taken out. Protested in the mortuary. Blocked the road Sundar Kand was recited in the court premises. Sadbuddhi Yajna was also performed for the government to pass the Advocates Protection Act in the Vidhansabha.
Advocate Satish Khandal, Former Secretary Rajasthan High Court Bar Association told that after the assurance of the Government, a meeting is called tomorrow to take a call on the future of the strike.
