Advocate moves HC, seeks CBI probe into Maratha Quota stir violence

An advocate in Maharashtra has submitted a petition to the Bombay High Court, requesting that all the First Information Reports (FIRs) related to the current agitation for Maratha reservation be moved to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or another specialized agency.

The petition was submitted by advocate Gunratna Sadavarte, who had previously represented several petitions that were against the Maratha reservation.

In the petition, Sadavarte has requested that the 28 FIRs, which include those filed at Bhoiwada police station and in Jalna within the past two months against activists advocating for Maratha reservations, be transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The petition asserted that even though the instigator of the violence was claimed to be activist Manoj Jarange-Patil, he has not been mentioned in any of the FIRs because of his political affiliations.

Sadavarte has also requested that the individuals involved in the agitation be held accountable for the destruction of public properties that occurred during the violence.

The petition also asked for an order requiring the state government to provide compensation to individuals whose properties were affected or damaged during the incidents.

Last week, individuals who identified themselves as Maratha reservation activists reportedly vandalized two vehicles owned by Sadavarte.

Sadavarte is expected to present the plea before the High Court on Friday.
