Today, the Supreme Court will hear a batch of Public Interest Litigations (PILs) seeking an investigation into the Adani Group-Hindenberg report issue and the SEBI's plea for an extension of time to submit the report.
Earlier, the Court adjourned the hearing on the SEBI plea seeking a six-month extension to conclude the investigation in the Hindenburg Research's report.
A bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud was hearing SEBI's application in which the stock market regulator SEBI has sought six months more time from the Supreme Court to probe Hindenburg's allegations against the Adani group.
SEBI said that it would not be in the interest of justice and would not be legally appropriate to draw any wrong or premature conclusions before the investigation of possible flaws in Adani Group's regulatory disclosure. SEBI said that it has contacted the regulators of 11 countries. SEBI has asked these regulators to share information on whether the Adani group has violated any rules regarding the shares available in the market.
On May 12, Chief Justice DY Chandrachud told Sebi that the demand for six months' time to complete the probe was not reasonable. He has asked SEBI to complete the investigation in three months. However, the final decision of the court regarding the extension of the deadline may come on Tuesday. SEBI has sought six months more time from the court to complete the investigation in the Adani case.
