Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray has taken legal action by approaching the Bombay High Court to request the opportunity to present his side of the case before any decisions are made regarding a public interest litigation that calls for a CBI investigation into the deaths of actor Sushant Singh Rajput and his former manager Disha Salian.
In his application submitted on October 13 through his advocate Rahul Arote, Thackeray argued that the public interest litigation (PIL) should not be considered valid because an investigation into the matter was already being conducted by the state authorities.
The PIL was submitted by the 'Supreme Court & High Court Litigants Association of India,' represented by its president Rashid Khan Pathan in September this year. The PIL sought the prompt arrest and questioning of Thackeray in relation to the "unclear" fatalities of Disha Salian and Sushant Singh Rajput.
As of the information available, the High Court has not scheduled a hearing for the PIL regarding the "mysterious" deaths of Disha Salian and Sushant Singh Rajput.
"We have submitted an intervention application, requesting an opportunity to present our arguments before any decision is made. We have contended that the PIL should not be considered valid because the CBI is already conducting an investigation in the Sushant Singh Rajput case," stated Arote.
Arote added, "It's not appropriate to issue any orders in a PIL when the state machinery is already actively involved in the investigation."
The PIL requested that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) be instructed to conduct an investigation into Thackeray, who is a former Maharashtra minister, and that a comprehensive investigation report be submitted.
Sushant Singh Rajput was discovered dead in his apartment in the suburban area of Bandra on June 14, 2020.
The Mumbai police initially filed an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and initiated an investigation into Sushant Singh Rajput's death. However, in July, the actor's father filed a complaint with the Bihar police, alleging that Rajput's girlfriend, Rhea Chakraborty, and her family members had assisted in his suicide. This led to a more complex and multi-jurisdictional investigation into the circumstances surrounding Rajput's death.
The case was subsequently transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is currently conducting an investigation in the city. In addition to the CBI, multiple agencies are involved in various aspects of the case: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is investigating allegations of money laundering involving Rhea Chakraborty and her family. Whereas, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) is looking into claims that Rhea Chakraborty was involved in drug consumption and that she may have also supplied drugs to Sushant Singh Rajput.
Disha Salian, who was a former manager of Sushant Singh Rajput, tragically passed away on June 8, 2020, following a fall from the 14th floor of a residential building in suburban Malad. The city police initially registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) case in connection with her death.
