Telangana HC Grants Bail to Two Accused in Phone Tapping Case

The Telangana High Court has granted bail to two accused individuals in the high-profile phone tapping case, citing their prolonged detention and the likelihood of trial delays.

The petitioners, former Deputy Commissioner of Police P. Radha Kishan Rao and Bhujanga Rao, a suspended police officer, were arrested in March of the previous year. They were granted bail on Thursday.

During the proceedings, the Public Prosecutor submitted a sealed cover to the court, revealing that the investigation had uncovered a personal computer belonging to one of the accused, which contained sensitive information about judges.

As part of the bail conditions, the court directed the accused to execute a bond of Rs 1 lakh, along with two sureties of the same amount. Additionally, the court ordered them to surrender their passports.

The court has also instructed the accused to report to the Station House Officer concerned at 11 am every Monday for the next eight weeks for the purpose of investigation. After that period, they are required to appear as and when needed.

In the case, four police officials, including a suspended DSP from the Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB), were arrested by the Hyderabad Police for allegedly erasing intelligence data from various electronic devices. The phone tapping reportedly occurred during the previous BRS regime.

The former head of the SIB in Telangana and another accused are still at large, believed to be in the United States. Authorities have said that the suspended DSP and his team created profiles of hundreds of individuals and intercepted phone calls of several people. The individuals targeted in the phone tapping include political leaders, a High Court judge, his family members, and others.
