Raj Shamani to Take Down Dr Marwah’s Allegations on Dettol from YouTube Podcast: Delhi HC

Social media influencer Raj Shamani on Tuesday informed the Delhi High Court that he would edit and remove a portion of a YouTube podcast episode in which dermatologist Dr. Manjot Marwah allegedly made disparaging remarks about Dettol antiseptic liquid.

Justice Saurabh Banerjee recorded Shamani’s undertaking as part of a settlement reached between the parties.

The Court was hearing a defamation suit filed by Reckitt Benckiser (India) Limited—manufacturer of Dettol products—against Dr. Marwah, Raj Shamani, and Ritik Chaturvedi.

Reckitt alleged that Marwah made defamatory statements against its product during a podcast hosted by Shamani on his YouTube channel "FiguringOut.Co."

The video was uploaded on April 1 and titled “Skin Mistakes You Didn't Know! Tanning & Sunburn EXPOSED | Dr. Manjot Marwah | FO336 Raj Shamani.”

Reckitt also objected to an Instagram reel titled “Never Use Dettol on your Skin” uploaded on April 4 by Marwah and Shamani, and later reposted by Chaturvedi.

Appearing before the Court in the pre-lunch session, Shamani’s counsel informed that the video contained only a 90-second segment referring to Dettol, which his client would edit and remove. Justice Banerjee suggested reuploading the video in its entirety, but the counsel stated that instructions were limited to removing the specific segment.

Counsel for Dr. Marwah submitted that she had already taken down the Instagram reel, while Chaturvedi also confirmed deletion of the reel from his profile.

In the post-lunch session, parties submitted that a settlement agreement had been drafted. In light of this, the Court directed that the YouTube video be edited within 24 hours and restrained Shamani from reuploading the original version. Marwah and Chaturvedi were also directed to comply with the terms of settlement.

Reckitt’s suit arose from a legal notice sent to all three individuals, as well as Meta Platforms and YouTube. Reckitt contended that Dr. Marwah’s claims—suggesting Dettol is only a floor-cleaning product and unsuitable for skin application—were defamatory and misleading.

The company argued that as a medical professional, Marwah should have been aware of the difference between antiseptic and disinfectant products. It also alleged that the podcast and reel were published with malice and possibly at the behest of a rival brand.

Appearances:
Senior Advocate Chander M. Lal appeared for Reckitt Benckiser.
Raj Shamani was represented by Senior Advocate Satvik Varma, along with Advocates Nakul Gandhi, Mujeeb Rehman, and Tanish Gupta.
