The Kerala High Court Advocates' Association has passed a resolution declaring its decision to abstain from court proceedings on April 9, 2025, in protest against the steep hike in court fees introduced under the Kerala Finance Act, 2025.
Labeling the increase as a serious threat to democracy and the judicial system, the Association announced its participation in the 'Pen Down Protest Day'.
According to the Association, the revised fee structure has seen court fees surge by an alarming 400% to 9900%.
In response, the Association has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) before the High Court challenging the fee hike. Through the resolution, it expressed hope that no adverse orders will be passed due to advocates’ absence on the protest day, emphasizing that the move is solely intended to draw public attention to the injustice caused by the new fee regime.
