The Supreme Court dissolved the SIT probing the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case, saying that the investigation has been completed and the trial is underway. The Supreme Court has relieved retired High Court judge Justice Rakesh Kumar Jain from the work of monitoring the SIT investigating the case.
Case Brief :-
In the said matter, 8 people were killed in the violence that took place at around 3 pm on 3 October 2021 in Tikunia, Lakhimpur Kheri in UP. Violence had taken place during the farmers' demonstration before the visit of the then Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Keshav Prasad Maurya.
According to the FIR of UP Police, in the same incident, an SUV had crushed four farmers in which Ashish Mishra was sitting. Four farmers were crushed to death by a car.
Angered by the incident, the farmers had beaten the driver of the SUV and two BJP workers to death. A journalist covering the event was also killed in this violence.
Ashish Mishra, son of BJP's Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra, was accused in this violence. Ashish Mishra was accused of crushing the protesting farmers. When the matter heated up, on October 5, the police had registered an FIR against about 15-20 unknown people including Ajay Mishra's son Ashish Mishra. Let us tell you that in this case, the bail of Ashish Mishra was challenged in the Supreme Court on 17 February 2022.
After which, on January 25, 2023, the Supreme Court granted conditional interim bail to Ashish Mishra, accused in the Lakhimpur Kheri incident.
