Special Court Denies CBI Plea to Halt 'Buried Truth – The Indrani Mukerjea Story' Documentary Series Amid Murder Case

On Tuesday, a Special Court dismissed the CBI's request to halt production of a documentary series named "Buried Truth – The Indrani Mukerjea Story," which focuses on Indrani Mukerjea, the defendant in the Sheena Bora murder case.

The series, which includes individuals closely linked to the case, is set to debut on the streaming platform 'Netflix' on February 23, 2024. Special CBI Judge S P Naik-Nimbalkar remarked on Tuesday that the CBI did not present legal grounds for the court to instruct the OTT platform to refrain from airing the series.

The judge stated that there are no "inherent powers" to halt the broadcast and granted the CBI the freedom to approach a more suitable forum. According to IMDB, the documentary delves into the disappearance of 25-year-old Sheena Bora and uncovers the startling aftermath.

In its application, CBI sought to “issue directions to [the] accused and other concerned for staying/stopping the featuring of the accused persons and the persons connected with the case in the documentary...by Netflix and its broadcasting on any Platform till the conclusion of the ongoing trial.”

According to the CBI chargesheet, Sheena Bora (24) was strangled to death by her mother Indrani Mukerjea, her former driver Shyamvar Rai, and ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna, on April 24, 2012. Additionally, her then-husband, Peter Mukerjea, is also implicated in the case. The agency asserts that Sheena's body was disposed of in the Pen forest in Raigad district. The murder came to light in 2015 following the driver's arrest in an unrelated case.

All accused in the case are out on bail.
