Today, the Supreme Court of India refused to interfere with the Punjab and Haryana High Court's order staying the elections to the Wrestling Federation of India. The Punjab and Haryana High Court has adjourned the hearing of the matter till September 25, continuing the stay on the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) elections.
Earlier, on August 11, the Punjab and Haryana High Court had issued an order to stay the election.
A bench of Justices Abhay S Oka and Justice Pankaj Mithal asked the petitioner, Andhra Pradesh Amateur Wrestling Association, to approach the High Court with its grievances.
The bench, comprised of Justices Abhay S Oka and Pankaj Mithal, has made it clear that they see no reason to hear the matter at the Supreme Court level. They have suggested that the petitioner, the Andhra Pradesh Amateur Wrestling Association, should have first gone to the High Court to seek a resolution.
Furthermore, the bench mentioned that the petitioner did not apply to have the interim stay vacated in the High Court, but instead chose to approach the Supreme Court directly. Given these circumstances, the Supreme Court has refused to entertain the special leave petition, implying that the matter should be dealt with in the High Court first.
The top court was hearing a plea by the Andhra Pradesh Amateur Wrestling Association against the August 11 order of the high court.
