SC Judges to Visit Manipur Relief Camps on March 22

A team of six Supreme Court judges, led by Justice B.R. Gavai, will visit relief camps in violence-hit Manipur on Saturday, March 22, 2025.

Their visit aims to provide legal aid and humanitarian support to internally displaced persons (IDPs).

The delegation includes Justices Surya Kant, Vikram Nath, M.M. Sundresh, K.V. Viswanathan, and N. Kotiswar Singh.

They will visit the camps as part of the 12th anniversary celebrations of the Manipur High Court.

According to the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), Justice Gavai, who is also its Executive Chairman, will virtually inaugurate legal services and medical camps across all districts of Manipur.

Justice Gavai also open legal aid clinics in Imphal East, Imphal West, and Ukhrul districts.

These legal service camps will help IDPs access government welfare schemes, pensions, jobs, and reconstruct lost identity documents. They will also provide essential healthcare support.

In addition, a team of 25 specialized doctors from Chennai will set up medical camps at all relief centers in Manipur. They will stay for six more days to ensure continued medical care and access to essential medicines.

NALSA and the Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) have played a crucial role in providing legal aid since the ethnic violence on May 3, 2023, between the Meitei and Kuki communities.

The visit by Supreme Court judges highlights NALSA’s commitment to justice for marginalized communities. As the primary institution for free legal aid, NALSA continues to bridge the gap between legal rights and accessibility.

"By ensuring that every displaced person receives the necessary support, protection, and resources, NALSA remains dedicated to helping individuals rebuild their lives with dignity," NALSA added.
