The Supreme Court on Friday granted interim bail to Uttar Pradesh MLA Abbas Ansari in connection with a case registered under the state's Gangsters Act.

A bench comprising Justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh directed Ansari, son of the late gangster Mukhtar Ansari, to reside in his official accommodation in Lucknow. The court also mandated that he obtain prior permission from authorities before visiting his constituency in Mau.

Additionally, the bench restricted Ansari from leaving Uttar Pradesh without the court's approval and instructed him to inform the police a day in advance before attending court proceedings.
