SC Collegium Recommends Repatriation of J&K HC Judge Atul Sreedharan to Madhya Pradesh HC

Today, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended the repatriation of Justice Atul Sreedharan from the Jammu and Kashmir High Court to his parent court, the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

The bench of Justice Sreedharan had initially sought a transfer from Madhya Pradesh to Jammu and Kashmir in April 2023, citing his daughter's entry into law practice in Madhya Pradesh.

The Collegium has now recommended his return to the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

"The Supreme Court Collegium in its meeting held on March 6, 2025 has recommended repatriation of Mr. Justice Atul Sreedharan, Judge, High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, to his parent High Court i.e. High Court of Madhya Pradesh," a statement published by the Collegium on the website of the Supreme Court said.

Justice Atul Sreedharan was a junior to Senior Advocate and former Solicitor General Gopal Subramanium from 1992 to 1997.

After practicing independently in Delhi from 1997 to December 2000, he relocated to Indore in 2001. There, he served as counsel for both the State and Central governments before being appointed as an additional judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court in April 2016.

He was elevated to a permanent judge of the High Court on March 17, 2018.
