Rajasthan Court Sentences 14 Men, Including Victim's Husband, to 7 Years for Heinous Naked Parade Case

The Rajasthan Court has sentenced 14 men, including the victim’s husband, to seven years in prison, nearly a year after a 20-year-old pregnant woman was stripped and paraded naked. The court labeled the crime as "heinous," likening it to a similar incident in Manipur.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Pratapgarh, Ramkanya Soni, also sentenced three women involved in the case to five years each, as reported by Special Public Prosecutor Manish Nagar.

The prosecutor highlighted the dissonance between the cultural reverence for women and the ongoing violence they face, referencing last year's shocking case in Manipur where two women were paraded naked.

The men sentenced to seven years include Kanha Meena (the victim’s husband) and others: Khetia Meena, Motiya (Motilal) Meena, Punia Meena, Kesra (Kesrimal) Meena, Suraj Meena, Pintu Meena, Nathulal Meena, Manaram (Veniya) Meena, Netia Meena, Rupa Meena, Gautam Meena, Ramlal Meena, and Ramesh Meena. The women sentenced to five years are Indra Meena, Mirki Meena, and Jhumli Meena.

The incident occurred on August 31 in Nichlakota village, Dhariyawad town, Pratapgarh, when the accused allegedly found the victim at the house of a man she was said to be involved with. The pregnant woman was subsequently abandoned at her father's house. She and her mother later reported the crime to the police, leading to the filing of an FIR and the arrest of the accused.

Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot had visited the woman and announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh along with a government job. Additionally, a five-member special investigation team (SIT) was established by the state police to probe the case.
