Pahalgam Terror Attack | PIL Filed in Supreme Court Seeking Enhanced Tourist Safety

In response to the recent terror attack targeting tourists in Pahalgam, a public interest litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Supreme Court by Advocate Vishal Tiwari.

The petition urges the Court to direct the Union Home Ministry and respective State governments to implement robust safety measures for tourists, particularly in hill regions and remote destinations.

The PIL emphasizes the need for the deployment of armed forces at popular tourist spots, especially in sensitive areas that attract large crowds. It also calls for the establishment of adequate medical infrastructure in remote hilly and valley regions to ensure timely emergency aid.

Highlighting the economic importance of tourism in North Indian states, the petition notes,

“Tourism forms the backbone of the economy for many northern states, particularly during the summer months. Terrorist attacks not only threaten human life but also have a direct adverse impact on the region’s economy. It is crucial to strengthen safety arrangements in vulnerable areas like Pahalgam, where no significant security measures were reportedly in place despite its sensitivity.”

The plea further seeks specific directions to ensure the safety of pilgrims participating in the Amarnath Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir.
