New Supreme Court building construction underway; ground floor to accommodate SCBA & SCAORA: CJI DY Chandrachud

Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, announced on Thursday that a new Supreme Court building is currently under construction. The upcoming building will be situated behind the existing one and will house various important facilities on its ground floor. 

This includes the offices of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), the Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association (SCAORA), and a dedicated block for women lawyers practicing at the Supreme Court.

Speaking about the development, the Chief Justice stated, "We are in the process of erecting a new edifice for the Supreme Court of India. The entire ground floor will be designated for SCBA, SCAORA, and the exclusive block for Supreme Court's women lawyers. Stay tuned for the unveiling of this new architectural endeavor. The project is underway, located just behind the existing structure."

The Chief Justice disclosed this information during a hearing related to a case challenging the abrogation of Article 370.

Further highlighting his commitment to the project, the CJI had made an unannounced visit to the new Supreme Court building on August 8, overseeing the advancements in the ongoing construction.
