The Allahabad High Court is now reviewing a petition from the Anjuman Intezamia Masajid Committee, the governing body of the Gyanvpai mosque in Varanasi. This legal action comes in response to a recent order from the Varanasi District Court that granted permission for Hindus to conduct prayers in the southern cellar of the Gyanvapi mosque.
Senior advocate SFA Naqvi brought the matter before Acting Chief Justice Manoj Kumar Gupta, who instructed him to file an urgent listing plea with the Registrar Listing. Consequently, an application has been submitted to the Registrar Listing, indicating that the case is anticipated to be addressed promptly.
This recent development day after the Supreme Court declined an urgent hearing of the Mosque Committee's petition challenging the order permitting religious rituals (puja) in Vyas Ji ka Tehkhana, situated in the southern cellar of the mosque.
The Varanasi District Judge issued a directive yesterday, instructing the District Administration to facilitate suitable arrangements within seven days for Hindus to perform worship rituals in one of the sealed cellars or bases (Vyas Ji ka Tehkhana) within the Gyanvapi mosque complex. It's worth noting that religious activities at this location were discontinued in 1993.
The issue revolves around 'Somnath Vyas' tehkhana, situated within the premises of the Gyanvapi Mosque. Up until 1993, the Vyas family performed religious ceremonies in the basement. However, following a directive from the state government, these religious practices were discontinued.
