A man has been sentenced to 12 years of rigorous imprisonment for the rape of an 80-year-old bed-ridden woman in 2022, with the court condemning the act as a severe assault on societal and moral values.
The survivor testified that she begged the 30-year-old convict with folded hands to spare her, highlighting the brutality of the crime.
Additional Sessions Judge Aanchal of Tis Hazari District Courts delivered the verdict against Ankit, also known as Mogli, who was found guilty of rape, house trespass, theft, and voluntarily causing hurt.
According to the prosecution, Ankit forcibly entered the woman's home, assaulted and repeatedly raped her, and then stole her mobile phone before fleeing.
The court noted that the crime was committed solely to satisfy the convict’s lust, rather than being a spur-of-the-moment act. In addition to the 12-year sentence for rape, Ankit was given five years for house trespass, one year for theft, and six months for causing hurt, with all sentences to run concurrently.
The court also referred the case to the Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLA) to determine appropriate compensation for the survivor
