Today, the Kerala High Court concluded the anticipatory bail plea submitted by advocate BA Aloor regarding the sexual harassment case lodged against him. The court decision was based on the observation that the purported offense was eligible for bail.
Justice Sophy Thomas expressed the view that the anticipatory bail application was not viable, as the offense of sexual harassment under Section 354A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) is considered bailable.
During the proceedings, the public prosecutor representing the State had previously highlighted that the offense mentioned in the criminal case against Aloor was indeed bailable. Despite this, Aloor persisted in seeking anticipatory bail, arguing that he feared arrest.
On February 3, the High Court provided temporary protection from arrest to Aloor, while instructing the State counsel to obtain additional instructions regarding the State's stance on Aloor's concerns. Today, the Court finalized its decision by closing the anticipatory bail plea, deeming it not viable for further consideration.
In 2022, the Bar Council of Kerala (BCK) took suo-motu action against Aloor and his associates for allegedly breaching the Standards of Professional Conduct and Etiquette during court proceedings related to a gang rape case.
Following the initiation of the case by the Bar Council of Kerala (BCK), Aloor held a press conference in which he asserted that individuals with personal vendettas against him had provided false information to the BCK.
