Recently, the juvenile court sentenced two minors to mop the wards and kitchens of a government hospital for two years as punishment for their involvement in vandalizing a liquor store in 2020.
In addition, the court imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on each of the minors.
Juvenile Court (Session Judge) Deepa Gurjar, while delivering the verdict, stated that the minors must work without pay, cleaning the hospital facilities for at least 30 hours per week. The Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) will oversee their work and submit a progress report to the court every three months.
Both minors are required to appear in court again on February 10.
The case traces back to May 7, 2020, when Sandeep Kumar filed a complaint at Bagad police station, alleging that the minors, traveling in three unregistered vehicles, vandalized his liquor store and looted Rs 1.5 lakh in cash. A van was also damaged during the incident. The police detained the minors, and the chargesheet was presented before the Juvenile Justice Board in Jhunjhunu, which later transferred the case to the Juvenile Court.
Public Prosecutor Bharat Bhushan Sharma noted that the court recorded the statements of 25 witnesses and reviewed the evidence presented. While the minors were acquitted of robbery charges, they were found guilty of vandalism and assault, resulting in their sentencing.
