Governor Gulab Chand Kataria presided over the oath-taking ceremony where Justice Vijay Bishnoi was sworn in as the Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court. The event took place at Raj Bhavan on Monday in the presence of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Notable attendees included Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly Biswajit Daimary, Minister for Panchayat and Rural Development Ranjit Dass, Chief Secretary of the Government of Assam Paban Kumar Borthakur, Advocate General of Assam Devajit Saikia, DGP G.P Singh, DGP of Meghalaya LR Bishnoi, judges from the Gauhati High Court, members of the legal fraternity, and other senior state government officials, as stated in a press release.
Justice Vijay Bishnoi was appointed as a Judge of the Rajasthan High Court on 8 January 2013 and has been functioning there as a senior puisne Judge. Before his elevation as a Judge of the High Court, he practised at the Rajasthan High Court and the Central Administrative Tribunal at Jodhpur. His area of practice was civil, criminal, Constitutional, service and election cases. As regards his contribution to the judiciary by way of disposal of cases, during his tenure of nearly eleven years as a Judge of High Court, he has authored 652 reported judgments.
