Today, Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh, the most senior puisne Judge of the Patna High Court, took oath as the 34th Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court. Raghubar Das, Governor of Odisha, administered him the oath of office.
Last week, the appointment of Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh as the 34th Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court was officially notified by the Center, following his recommendation for the post by the Collegium of the Supreme Court on November 2, 2023.
In recommending Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh's name, the Collegium mentioned the absence of representation from the Patna High Court among the Chief Justices of the High Courts. Additionally, it made note of...
''“As regards his contribution to the judiciary by way of disposal of cases, during his tenure of more than 11 years as a Judge of High Court, he authored 1246 reported judgments, of which 562 were delivered during last 5 years.''
Justice Singh began his legal career by enrolling as an Advocate on October 30, 1990, subsequent to completing his LLB degree from the Campus Law Centre, University of Delhi. In 1998, he was appointed as an Additional Standing Counsel for the Central Government. Additionally, he served as an empanelled counsel for the administrative side of the Patna High Court.
Subsequently, Justice Singh was appointed as a 'panel counsel' by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India, entrusted with handling cases on behalf of the Accountant General Office in the Patna High Court. His contributions were recognized with the designation of Senior Advocate in 2010. Furthermore, he held the position of Additional Advocate General for the Government of Bihar from December 2010 until his elevation as an Additional Judge of the Patna High Court on April 5, 2012.
Following the elevation of the then Chief Justice Sanjay Karol to the Supreme Court, Justice Singh assumed the role of Acting Chief Justice of the Patna High Court briefly starting from February 6, 2023.
