On Friday, the Delhi High Court granted permission to Mahua Moitra, a former Lok Sabha MP who had been expelled, to withdraw her petition. This petition had initially challenged the eviction notice served by the Directorate of Estates (DoE), which instructed her to vacate the government accommodation assigned to her.

Moitra's counsel stated that the plea had become inconsequential since she had already vacated the premises.

"Petitioner is already stated to have vacated the accommodation in question. The petition is dismissed as withdrawn," said Justice Sachin Datta.

The TMC leader relocated from the government bungalow on January 19, following the high court's denial of any interim relief in her favour.

On January 18, the high court dismissed Moitra's application, which sought to prevent the authorities from evicting her from the government bungalow. The eviction was a result of the cancellation of her allotment following her expulsion, citing medical grounds.

Despite stating that she was a single woman undergoing treatment at a local hospital and willing to pay any charges, the high court noted that the petitioner's expulsion was still pending before the Supreme Court. The court emphasized that the extension of time to vacate the government accommodation was intricately connected to this unresolved matter, stating that as of now, she "has no right" in this regard.

Moitra received the notice instructing her to vacate the bungalow immediately on January 16. Previously, she had been directed to vacate the residence by January 7 following the cancellation of her allotment. Her expulsion from the Lok Sabha on December 8 the previous year was attributed to "unethical conduct," specifically allegations of accepting gifts and favors from businessman Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for posing questions targeting his business rival Gautam Adani.
