Yesterday, the Delhi Government granted approval for the establishment of three new district court complexes situated in Rohini Sector 26, Shastri Park, and Karkardooma.
In a recent session of the Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC), Atishi, the Finance Minister of Delhi, gave her approval to these three projects, as reported by officials.
Upon the successful completion of these three projects, Delhi's District Courts are set to experience a notable expansion with the addition of 200 new courtrooms, according to officials.
Atishi said, “At present, there is a considerable backlog of pending cases across the nation, leading to unnecessary delay in case resolutions. Building 200 new courtrooms will prove to be a significant step in strengthening the judicial system in Delhi.”
The Minister mentioned that the AAP government was actively working on a war footing to address the shortage of courtrooms in Delhi’s District Courts
In Rohini, the complex will consist of three basements, a ground floor, and two 11-story building blocks. It will house 100 courtrooms and 270 lawyer chambers. The total cost of this project is estimated to be Rs 714.19 crore, an official said.
The upcoming district court complex in Shastri Park is slated to encompass 48 courtrooms and 175 lawyer stations, with an allocated budget of Rs 184.91 crore. Additionally, in Karkardooma, there are plans to construct an extra court block adjacent to the existing court, featuring 50 new courtrooms, with an estimated cost of Rs 199.39 crore, as informed by the official.
Atishi has issued directives to relevant departments to formulate a comprehensive timeline and expedite the execution of these projects.
