The Bombay High Court on Monday expressed dissatisfaction with the State CID's handling of the investigation into the encounter of Akshay Shinde, an accused in the Badlapur Sexual Assault Case.
A division bench comprising Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice P.K. Chavan was hearing a petition filed by Shinde's father, who alleged that his son was killed to shield others involved in the case.
Shinde was reportedly killed in an encounter while being transported from court by the police. According to the police, he snatched an officer's revolver and fired three rounds before another officer shot him.
The bench raised concerns over the investigating agency's failure to collect Shinde's fingerprints from a water bottle provided to him before the encounter, terming the lapse as unusual.
The court stressed the importance of submitting all pertinent material to the magistrate to ensure a thorough inquiry into the incident. Noting delays in the investigation, the bench observed that the police were still in the process of recording witness statements.
The court directed the CID to submit its report to the magistrate within two weeks and scheduled the next hearing for December 12.
