Tejas Karia Sworn in as Delhi High Court Judge

Tejas Karia, a former Disputes Resolution Partner at Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas, was sworn in as a judge of the Delhi High Court on Friday.

Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya administered the oath of office, bringing the court's strength to 39 judges.

Karia holds an LLM from the London School of Economics (LSE) and completed his LLB from ILS Law College, Pune. His elevation was recommended by the High Court Collegium on October 25, 2023, and later approved by the Supreme Court Collegium on August 29, 2024. The Central government confirmed his appointment on February 12.

Recognized as a specialist in arbitration law, Karia has primarily practiced in this domain. The Supreme Court Collegium highlighted the increasing volume of arbitration-related cases before the Delhi High Court, emphasizing the need for specialized handling.

While his direct appearances in the High Court have been limited, the Collegium noted that his significant involvement in arbitration matters before tribunals compensates for this.
