Supreme Court seeks reports from the States on alleged attacks on Christians

In a PIL Petition filed by Dr. Peter Machado of National Solidarity Forum Rev. Vijayesh Lal of Evangelical Felloship of India, the Supreme Court's Division Bench headed by Justice Dr. DY Chandrachud passed an order to seek report for claiming violence against the members of the Christian Community in the Country.

The Suprme Court asked the Ministry of Home Affaris to seek report from the states including UP, MP, Haryana, Karnataka, Odisha, Chhatisgarh and Jharkhand on attacks on Christian institutions.

Appearing for the Central Government, Solicitor General of India MR. Tushar Mehta told the Apex Court that majority of the alleged cases mentioned in the plea are false and based on slf serving articles published on a web portal. Adding to the contention, Mr. Mehta said that the court should not pass an order in such a plea, otherwise it will open Pandora's box.

Justice Chandrachud gave 2 months time to the Government to seek report from the states.
