Supreme Court entertains petition to regulate Government Advertisement

A bench of justice DY Chandrachud and Justice Hima Kohli issued a notice in a Public Interest Petition filed by NGO Common Causes for seeking direction to the Central and State Governments restraining from using public funds on Government Advertisements in Violation of the guidelines issued by the Supreme Court in Common Causes V. Union of India in 2015.

Finding the bench a fit case for interference, notice was issued in the matter in a petition seeking to prohibit Governments from publishing advertisements outside the territory of their respective states except when they publish these advertisements for seeking investment in the state; prohibit the government to publish at least 3 months before the elections and publish photographs of the public functionaries on the Government advertisements. The next date of hearing of this petition is 11.11.2022.
