Sikkim appoints Sh. Basava Prabhu S. Patil as Advocate General; Son of former CJI Shivraj Patil takes charge

Government of Sikkim, under the Law & Parliamentary Affairs Department, has announced the appointment of Shri Basava Prabhu S. Patil as the new Advocate General. The appointment, in accordance with clause (1) of Article 165 of the Constitution of India, comes with immediate effect, signifying the commencement of his role in upholding legal affairs in the state.

Shri Basava Prabhu S. Patil, who hails from Karnataka and is notably the son of Former Chief Justice of India Shivraj Patil, brings a wealth of legal experience to the position. As a Senior Advocate, he is expected to contribute his expertise to the advancement of legal proceedings and administration in Sikkim.

While the terms and conditions of his appointment, including retainer and fees, are yet to be disclosed, the Government has assured that these details will be communicated through a separate notification.

The official announcement was made by Suraj Chettri, SSJS and LR-cum-Secretary of the Law & Parliamentary Affairs Department, on behalf of the Governor. This move is anticipated to have a positive impact on the legal landscape of Sikkim and ensure effective representation in legal matters.
