Senior Advocate KV Viswanathan appointed Amicus Curiae in plea challenging ED Director's Extension by Supreme Court

The Bench of Chief Justice of India and Justice Ravindra Bhat of the Top Court, today on 06.05.2022, appointed Senior Advocate KV Viswanathan as an amicus curiae for assistance in deciding a batch of petitions challengingthe extension given to the Director of the Directorate of Enforcement.

The petitions also challenge Central Vigilance Commission (Amendment) Act 2021which allows the extension of the term of the Director of the Enforcement of Directorate up to 5 years.

These petitions have been filed by Dr.Jaya Thakur and Randeep Sing Surjewala, Mahua Moitra and Saket Gokhale and Advocate ML Shara which was pointed out by the SC Tushar Mehta that the people who have challenged the appointment are people who are facing ED. 

 

The matter is now posted on 19 Sept, 2022 for final hearing.
