As per the circular issued by the Supreme Court on 11.10.2023, the week commencing from 16th October 2023 has been declared as Miscellaneous week.
It is learnt to the TLA Network that the decision has been taken due to the heavy pendency of cases in the Supreme Court.
Usually, each Monday or the first working day of the week and the Friday and last working day of the week is Misc. working days in the Supreme Court and the Tuesdays are earmarked for Non-Misc. days when the Supreme Court hears cases at length. Wednesdays and Thursdays are regular hearing days when the old appeals are being heard along with small cases such as Transfer Petition and Bail applications.
The step has been taken to reduce the pendency since there is a huge backlog of cases in the Supreme Court. Probably, in 5 days starting from 16th Oct would see a lot of disposal in the Supreme Court.
The Misc weeks in the Supreme Court are declared before and after the Summer and Winder break.
