Today, Supreme Court Collegium headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud recommended the names of seven additional judges of the Allahabad High Court and 11 judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court for appointment as permanent judges.
Collegium, included Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice Sanjiv Khanna, met today and its decision was uploaded on the apex court website.
Those recommended for appointment include Allahabad High Court judges Umesh Chandra Sharma, Renu Aggarwal, Ram Manohar Narayan Mishra, Mayank Kumar Jain, Shiv Shankar Prasad, Gajendra Kumar and Nalin Kumar Srivastava.
Earlier, on May 1, 2023, the Allahabad High Court Collegium made unanimous recommendations and the Chief Minister and Governor of Uttar Pradesh have agreed to it.
“In terms of the Memorandum of Procedure, judges of the Supreme Court who are familiar with the cases of the Allahabad High Court were consulted for the purpose of ensuring the suitability of the additional judges to be appointed as permanent judges.
''A Committee of two judges of the Supreme Court constituted by the Chief Justice of India in terms of the resolution of the Supreme Court Collegium dated October 26, 2017, has assessed the decisions of the additional judges,'' the collegium said.
