BREAKING | SC Collegium Recommends Appointments Of New Chief Justices In 8 HC's

The Supreme Court collegium has proposed the appointment of new Chief Justices for Eight High Courts.

Justice Manmohan has been proposed to be appointed as the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court. He is currently serving as the Acting Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court.

Justice M. S. Ramachandra Rao, who is presently the Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, is proposed to be transferred as the Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court following the retirement of the current Chief Justice, Dr. B. R. Sarangi, on July 19, 2024.

Justice Rajiv Shakdher, currently a judge of the Delhi High Court, has been proposed to become the Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court. This vacancy will arise upon the transfer of Justice Ramachandra Rao to the Jharkhand High Court.

Additionally, Justice Suresh Kait, also a judge of the Delhi High Court, has been proposed to be appointed as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. This position will become vacant if the proposal to elevate the incumbent Chief Justice, N. Kotiswar Singh, is accepted.

Justice Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia, currently a judge of the Punjab & Haryana High Court, has been proposed to be the Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

Justice Nitin Jamdar, a judge of the Bombay High Court, has been recommended for appointment as the Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court.

Justice Tashi Rabstan, who serves as a judge of the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court, has been proposed to become the Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court following the retirement of the incumbent Chief Justice Vaidyanathan on August 16.

Additionally, Justice K. R. Shriram, a judge of the Bombay High Court, has been recommended for appointment as the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court.

The resolution was passed by the Collegium comprising Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice BR Gavai.
