DMK government ministers Udhayanidhi Stalin and PK Shekhar Babu and party MP A. in the case of attending the anti-Sanatan Dharma meeting and making objectionable comments. The Madras High Court on Thursday reserved its order on the 'co warranto' petition filed against Raja.
The petition has also challenged the continuation of these people in public office. Through a quo warranto petition, the court is requested to ask the question under what right did a person give any work or statement?
The bench of Justice Anita Sumant, after hearing the arguments of both the sides, reserved the order without specifying any date. Accusing DMK leaders of attending an anti-Sanatan Dharma meeting and giving speeches, right-wing organization Hindu Munnani functionary T. Manohar and two others have filed 'co warranto' petitions.
Earlier, meeting was reportedly organized as a response to the September 2 gathering, during which Udhayanidhi Stalin, the son of Chief Minister MK Stalin and a DMK minister, had called for the "eradication" of Sanatan Dharma.
In his judgment, Justice Jayachandran stated that the co-existence of multiple and diverse ideologies is what defines this country. He emphasized that courts cannot be expected to support those who seek to promote ideas that generate hostility among the public. The judge also criticized the fact that some members of the ruling party and ministers participated in a meeting aimed at eradicating Sanatan Dharma, and he pointed out that the lack of police action against them amounts to a failure of duty on the part of the police.
The judge noted that permission had been requested for a meeting aimed at countering the call to oppose Sanatan Dharma by focusing on the Dravidian ideology.
