A court in Bandra on Saturday directed the city police to investigate a criminal complaint against film and television producer Ekta Kapoor over allegations of disrespecting Indian soldiers in one of her web series.
The magistrate’s court, invoking Section 202 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, sought a police report on the matter by May 9. This provision allows the magistrate to either conduct an inquiry into a complaint or direct the police to do so.
The complaint was filed by YouTuber Vikas Pathak, popularly known as ‘Hindustani Bhau,’ through his lawyer, Ali Kaashif Khan Deshmukh. It names Ekta Kapoor, her OTT platform Alt Balaji, and her parents, Shobha and Jeetendra Kapoor. The complaint alleges that a web series on Alt Balaji depicted a military officer engaged in an "illicit sexual act."
It further claims that the accused "stooped to a cheap low" by portraying the Indian Army’s uniform in such a manner, with the national emblem on it, thereby insulting the dignity and pride of the country.
