On Monday, a Mumbai court declined to halt the release of the Hindi film 'Maidaan,' featuring Ajay Devgn in the lead role, scheduled for April 10.
Meherafrin Investments Private Limited (MIPL), the vendor who provided the camera equipment for the film's shooting, filed a commercial suit against the film's producers, Byaview Projects LLP and Boney Kapoor, in the Mumbai City Civil Court at Dindoshi. MIPL requested an injunction on the film's release due to unpaid dues totaling ₹64,59,577.
MIPL asserted that despite assurances that the pending amount of ₹1,07,21,930 would be settled before the film's release, it remained unpaid. Consequently, MIPL filed a suit demanding unpaid dues of ₹64,59,577, along with interest at a rate of 21 percent.
MIPL requested interim relief under Order 38 Rule 5 of the Code of Civil Procedure, which involves the attachment of property before the disposal of the suit. Additionally, MIPL sought an injunction to prevent the release of the film until the pending payment is cleared.
Following brief arguments, Civil Judge AZ Khan declined to issue an injunction against the film's release. Nevertheless, to safeguard MIPL's interests, the court instructed Bayview to provide a bank guarantee of ₹96,06,743 within two weeks.
Advocates Ameet Naik, Madhu Gadodia, Rahul Thorat and Tarini Kulkarni instructed by Naik Naik & Co. appeared for the producers, Bayview Projects LLP and Boney Kapoor.
MIPL was represented by NB Legal.
