The Delhi court has received a plea from Manish Sisodia, former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi and key member of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Sisodia, currently in jail due to the Delhi liquor policy case, is seeking interim bail. His aim is to engage in the AAP's campaign for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
In light of cases filed by both the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) regarding the matter, a request for interim bail has been made.
Special Judge (Prevention of Corruption Act) Kaveri Baweja is scheduled to hear the case on April 20. Sisodia is among a group of notable political figures currently incarcerated over accusations of involvement in a criminal conspiracy related to the defunct Delhi Liquor Policy of 2021-22.
Sisodia has been detained since February of the previous year. The case stems from a First Information Report (FIR) filed by the CBI in 2022, alleging that AAP leaders profited from kickbacks from liquor manufacturers through this policy.
Sisodia was arrested by the CBI on February 26, 2023, and subsequently by the ED on March 9 of the same year. Despite his efforts, his bail petitions were denied by the trial court, the Delhi High Court, and even the Supreme Court, which also dismissed his review and curative pleas.
Recently, he filed new bail applications before the trial court, awaiting a decision.
