Amit Vyas, Founder Partner of Vertices Partners, has launched legal action against BookMyShow and Live Nation Entertainment, alleging a widespread ticketing fraud tied to the upcoming Coldplay concert in Mumbai.
The concert, scheduled for January 18, 19, and 21, 2025, at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, has become the center of controversy due to claims of unethical ticketing practices.
Vyas, representing aggrieved Coldplay fans across India, has lodged a formal criminal complaint with the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) in Mumbai. He accuses the online ticketing platforms of deliberately blocking legitimate buyers during the official sale, which began on September 22, allowing ticket bots and black-market operators to dominate the sales.
The complaint highlights that tickets, marked as sold out on BookMyShow, were soon found on third-party resale platforms like Viagogo at prices inflated by 30 to 50 times their original value. This raised concerns about possible collusion between BookMyShow and resellers, leading to fan outrage.
Vyas alleges that top executives at BookMyShow and Live Nation orchestrated the scam, using bots and manipulating digital queues to prevent fair access to tickets. He has called for an FIR under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, including charges of organized crime, cheating, conspiracy, and breach of trust.
In addition to the criminal complaint, Vyas plans to file a public interest litigation (PIL) in the Bombay High Court, seeking regulatory measures for major events to prevent similar fraudulent practices in the future.
