Delhi HC Appoints Judge Kaveri Baweja as Registrar (Vigilance) in Key Administrative Reshuffle

The Delhi High Court has appointed Special Judge (PC Act) (CBI) Kaveri Baweja as Registrar (Vigilance), marking a key administrative reshuffle within the judiciary. The appointment, made on deputation, takes immediate effect.

An administrative order issued by the High Court stated:
“Further, Hon’ble the Chief Justice has been pleased to appoint Ms. Kaveri Baweja, an Officer of Delhi Higher Judicial Service, presently posted as Special Judge (PC Act) (CBI), as Registrar (Vigilance) in this Court on deputation basis with immediate effect.”

Baweja replaces Pawan Kumar Jain, who has been repatriated to his parent cadre and directed to report to Tis Hazari Courts.

Judge Baweja, currently posted at Rouse Avenue Courts, has presided over several high-profile and politically sensitive cases. These include the Delhi excise policy cases involving former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, and other AAP leaders. She notably denied regular bail to Sisodia and refused interim medical bail to Kejriwal while remanding him to ED custody.

She also recently delivered a life sentence to Congress leader Sajjan Kumar in connection with the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case.

In another significant development, Judge Baweja earlier this month stayed a lower court’s directive to the Delhi Police to investigate BJP leader and Delhi Law Minister Kapil Mishra’s alleged role in the 2020 Delhi riots.
