The Karnataka High Court has issued notice on a bail petition filed by suspended Janta Dal (S) leader Prajwal Revanna, who faces allegations of rape and sexual assault in two separate cases.
Justice Krishna S. Dixit, sitting as a single judge bench, issued notice and instructed the Special Investigation Team (SIT) handling the cases against Prajwal Revanna to submit its response.
Prajwal is presently in judicial custody as the Special Investigation Team (SIT) is probing three cases against him. He was arrested by the SIT at Bengaluru Airport upon his return from Germany on Thursday, May 30, in the early hours. His arrest relates to Crime No. 107/2024 registered at the Holenarasipura Town Police Station. Following his arrest, the court remanded him to custody until June 6.
Before the Lok Sabha elections on April 26, videos surfaced showing women allegedly being sexually assaulted by Prajwal, which went viral. Subsequently, after casting his vote, he left India. In response to a letter from the Karnataka State Commission for Women chief urging action, the State government formed a special investigation team (SIT) to investigate the case.
Prajwal's brother Suraj Revanna has been arrested in connection with a case involving alleged sexual abuse of a man and has been remanded to police custody until July 1.
