Justice Tashi Rabstan was sworn in as the 37th Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh during a ceremony at the Convention Centre in Jammu. The oath was administered by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha of Jammu & Kashmir.
The ceremony was graced by the presence of Justices Atul Sreedharan, Sanjeev Kumar, Sindhu Sharma, Rajnesh Oswal, Vinod Chatterji Koul, Sanjay Dhar, Puneet Gupta, Javed Iqbal Wani, Mohammad Akram Chowdhary, Rahul Bharti, Moksha Khajuria Kazmi, Wasim Sadiq Nargal, and Rajesh Sekhri.
The event was also attended by Lt. Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.), along with other dignitaries such as CEC Leh Tashi Gyalson and CEC Kargil Dr. Mohd. Jaffer Akhoon. Additionally, senior advocates, government lawyers, and members of Bar Associations from Jammu, Leh, and Kargil were present at the ceremony.
Justice Rabstan was born into a farming family in Skurbuchan, Leh, on April 10, 1963. He graduated in law from the University of Jammu and began his legal career in 1990, focusing on constitutional, civil, and criminal cases. Throughout his career, he served as Standing Counsel for the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council and as Additional Central Government Standing Counsel for Jammu.
In 2013, Justice Rabstan was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court, and he became a permanent judge in 2014. He has also served twice as the Acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
The ceremony was attended by senior officials from the J&K administration, police, and judiciary, as well as Justice Rabstan's family, including his spouse and mother.
