Former judge of the Allahabad High Court, Justice Kaushal Jayendra Thaker, has been appointed as the chairperson of the Gujarat State Human Rights Commission (GSHRC).
Justice Thaker commenced his tenure as a judge in the Gujarat High Court on May 4, 2013, and subsequently, he was transferred to the Allahabad High Court on April 11, 2016. After an esteemed judicial career service for almost seven years in Allahabad, Justice Thaker retired from his position on September 3.
Yesterday, the Governor of Gujarat appointed Justice Thaker as a Chairman of the GSHRC.
"After obtaining the recommendation from the Committee comprising of the Chief Minister, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly and the Minister of State for Home, I (Governor) hereby appoint Justice Thaker as the Chairman of the GSHRC," the appointment warrant stated.
The state has appointment Thakrey for a period of three years or until he reaches the age of 70, whichever comes earlier.
The Governor also appointed Bharatkumar Suryakant Upadhyay, a former principal district judge, as a Member of the GSHRC.
