Justice Kalpathi Rajendran Shriram took the oath of office as the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court on September 27, 2024, at 10:00 AM. The ceremony was held at the Raj Bhavan in Chennai, where he was administered the oath by the Governor of Tamil Nadu, RN Ravi.
The swearing-in ceremony was graced by the presence of several dignitaries, including the President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, former Supreme Court judge Justice Indira Banerjee, and former Chief Justice P. Sadasivam.
On September 21, the Central Government officially announced Justice Kalpathi Rajendran Shriram's appointment as the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court. The Supreme Court collegium, led by Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, had recommended his elevation on July 11. Prior to this appointment, Justice Shriram served as a judge at the Bombay High Court.
Justice Shriram enrolled as an advocate with the Maharashtra and Goa Bar Association on July 3, 1986, focusing on commercial matters with a specialization in shipping and international trade laws. He was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court on June 21, 2013, and later became a permanent judge on March 2, 2016.
