Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay resigns as judge of Calcutta high court

Today, Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay resigned from his position as a judge of the Calcutta High Court. He is reported to be entering politics. According to sources cited by news agency PTI, Justice Gangopadhyay sent his resignation letter to President Droupadi Murmu, with copies forwarded to Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court TS Sivagnanam. Abhijit Gangopadhyay arrived at his chamber at the high court in the morning, after which the resignation letter was sent.

He is scheduled to address the press in the afternoon, during which he is expected to disclose his future plans, amidst speculation that he will enter politics. Abhijit Gangopadhyay had announced on Sunday that he would resign on March 5.

"I am going to meet the Chief Justice. I am going to meet the Chief Justice for a courtesy visit. I have already sent my resignation to the President," he told reporters outside the High Court premises.
