''Give this vacation time to younger members of the Bar'' : SC Urges Senior Lawyers

On Monday, the Supreme Court issued a plea to senior lawyers, encouraging them to give junior lawyers the opportunity to argue cases during the vacation period.

A bench of Justices PS Narasimha and Sanjay Karol had a brief courtroom exchange with Senior Advocate Dr Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Solicitor General (SG) Tushar Mehta.

"I would request all Seniors to give this vacation time to the younger members of the Bar (to argue). We want the younger bar to grow, that is all; vacation was meant (to be an opportunity) only for the younger people," Justice Karol remarked.

Singhvi expressed his approval of the idea but emphasized the importance of establishing uniform rules for its implementation.

"I have been on record that if your lordships make uniform rules, it would be so much easier for us. In fact, I am repeating this for the fifth year...Collectively, your lordships can discuss and decide," he said.
